Great speakers aren’t just great talkers—they’re expert listeners. Here’s why.
Those who are incapable of listening, tend to talk "at" people.
When you master the art of listening you talk 'to' people.
Think of it this way, do you want to listen to a keynote speech where the person talked "at" you and it didn't seem to matter if you were there? (I'm going to bet you have seen that speech!)
Or do you want a public speaker who reaches out, takes you by the (metaphorical) hand, and creates connection?
Is this easy?
No.
Is it worth it?
100%.
Remember listening is an ACTIVE skill.
Hearing is passive.
So is talking "at."
In the end, it matters that you're creating conversations that resonate and inspire from the front of the room.
How has listening—really listening—improved how you connect when you are speaking in any situation?
