So some people follow the classic advice we’ve all heard: "Imagine the audience in their underwear." (Remember that episode of the Brady Bunch?”)
Turns out, that advice makes things worse.
A few years ago, I watched an 8-year-old follow that exact advice. She forgot her words and left the stage in tears.
It’s the same in business.
When you focus on the wrong things — like trying to make everything perfect or imagining the worst outcomes — you miss the moment and lose sight of what really matters.
That’s why I coach my clients to embrace their fear but keep their focus on what’s true right now.
You’re not here to worry about imaginary scenarios. You’re here to connect. To share your expertise. To create value.
Every business presentation, sales pitch, or live event is simply a conversation.
So instead of visualizing an audience in their underwear, focus on the message.
Remember: Connection beats perfection every time. No matter what Mike Brady says!
